Event ID 26322 – Login failed for user ”. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

Several days ago i got this massage in one of my customer environment. this was odd because few hours before, the operations manager worked perfectly.

looking inside Operations Manager event log and Application log in the SQL server didn’t help much. in the application log i found “Error: 18452 Login failed for user ‘’. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

so what went wrong ?

i opened the SQL management studio and verified that the OpsMgr DB is up and running, after that i looked into the security settings to see if something was changed, even thus the error did not talk about a specific user.

after some digging (include some research and spying 😉 ) i found that the “Domain Controller default policy” was harden.
the security option “Network security: LAN Manager authentication level” changed from “Send LM & NTLM responses” to “Send NTLMv2 response only refuse LM & NTLM” this setting was changed only on DCs !!!
